War On Native Soil

Dear Editor,

As a student at WCU and an individual born and raised in NYC, I feel compelled to offer my feelings with regard to the recent tradgedy befallen the U.S.A.

For those of us who have traversed the streets of NYC, or have flown over those spectacular landmarks of the World Trade Center on approach to one of New York’s airports, nothing can appropriately express the sense of loss felt. To watch your “hometown” under siege defies explanation and requires none.

I want to take the time to express a positive emotion, one of thanks to the countless volunteers who have donated their time to assist the many victims of this senseless act of violence. I also want to thank the many local residents who have donated supplies, money, and their support.

This is the time for “we” and “us.” In the realm of the pain, anguish, and fear being experienced there is no room for “I.” This is a time for all Americans to come together and pool resources for the greater good. Whether those resources are monetary, supplies, or emotional support, they are all essential to successfully surviving such a catastrophe.

Thank you again to the WCU students, Jackson County residents, and all of those throughout our nation and the world who are reaching out to help us in this difficult time.

Respectfully yours,

Debbie HennessySenior, Psychology Department
