GREENVILLE, SC – As a part of the Southern Conference basketball championships, postseason honors were announced Thursday with several Western Carolina Catamounts earning accolades.
The Lady Catamounts enjoyed their best season since the 1988-89 campaign. Their 13-14 overall mark was the best since ’88 when the team that season equaled that mark.
Thirteen victories for the first-year head coach Beth Dunkenberger was also the most by a rookie head coach in Cullowhee. A key part of those wins this season was the play of junior Laura Echols. She finished the season first in the conference in scoring, earning her a place on the All-Southern Conference first team.
Frontcourt counterpart freshman Tiffany Hamm was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as being named to the All-Freshman team by members of the media.
On the men’s side, freshman center Rans Brempong was named to the All-Freshman team by virtue of his league-leading 92 seasonal blocked shots.
Junior Cory Largent, who scored over 450 this season, earned Southern Conference Second-team All-conference selection.
