Acoustic guitarist Mike Rayburn, a former Western Carolina University student, will return to campus to perform on Thursday, April 19, at 9pm.
The performance, a blend of music, comedy and masterful guitar work, will take place at the Illusions nightclub in the A.K. Hinds University Center. Admission is $2 for Western students with valid identification, $4 for all others.
Rayburn’s career as a campus performer can be traced back to his college days at Western playing in informal circles and sing-alongs in residence halls. He was named “American Campus Entertainer of the Year” in 1998 and 1999 by the readers of Campus Activities Magazine, and has won the “Coffeehouse Entertainer of the Year” award for the past four years from the National Association for Campus Activities.
Rayburn also has won the National Association for Campus Activities “Harry Chapin Award” for humanitarian endeavors for his work with needy children in developing nations. He has a degree in classical guitar and performs acoustic rock with a touch of folk and country.
