The week of October 3 was a great week for Freshman Shannon Fowkes. She started off with two goals against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, including a game-winner. Later that week she scored her third collegiate goal against the Citadel Bulldogs as she led the Lady Catamounts (7-5-2, 3-1-1 SoCon) to two victories; the next day she was named the Southern Conference Player Of The Week. Fowkes, a Smithsburg, Md. native, became the fourth Catamount to receive the honor in the program’s eight-year history. Former Catamount Jordan Howell was tabbed with the honor in 2001. The next year, Natasha Moore took the honor and Casey Davis won the award last season. Fowkes is now in second place on the Lady Catamount team in goals scored, in a tie with sophomore Buki Baruwa and freshman teammate Bri Cunningham with three goals each. She is also tied with juniors Heather Dittmer and Lauren Atkinson for game-winning goals on the season with two; and is tied for first in that same category with 11 Southern Conference players.
