Despite a valiant effort by WCU soccer, the Catamounts lost their latest road game to the nationally-ranked Clemson Tigers, 2-0.
First half scoring was key in Sunday’s loss for the Catamounts. Clemson junior Samatha Fortier scored in the 28th minute on a well-executed passing exchange from teammate Molly Franklin. Later in the half, the Tigers scored off a corner kick that bounced around right in front of the WCU goal before Clemson forward Meghan Smith was able to find the back of the net.
Some high points for the Catamounts were shots on goal from eight different players, as well as goal keeper Caitlin Williams finishing the game with eight saves. Also, by keeping Clemson scoreless in the second half, the Catamounts maintain a three game streak where the opponent has not scored past the halfway point of the game.
