The Western Carolina Lady Catamounts golf team advanced two positions by posting the third-lowest round of the final day of the Southern Conference Tournament on April 21 to finish sixth overall at the at Moss Creek Resort North Course in Hilton Head, SC.
Josefine Sindh, who recorded her career-best finish, paced the Catamounts to finish tied for 11 overall. Freshman Blaire Minter was named to the All-Southern Conference and SoCon All-Freshman team. Minter is now the eighth Lady Catamount to receive all-conference accolades since 2002. She is joined by three other freshman, Line Cordes, Brandy Anderson, and Desiree Karlsson, who also earned All-SoCon during their first season at WCU.
Furman’s team held strong throughout the tournament to clinch the SoCon Conference Championship title by 22 strokes over second-place Chattanooga. The Furman Lady Paladins shot 916 to claim their 13th conference title, while Chattanooga shot 938, and Elon finished in third at 955.
Defending medalist Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman reclaimed another championship title, winning the individual competition by four strokes over Elon’s Danielle Mills in second. Kenoyer, a sophomore, carded a seven-over 223 while Mills was second at 227.
Sundh finished her three rounds with an 82 on Tuesday to slip from fifth-place entering the round into a tie for 11th where she finished at 237. Both junior Desiree Karlsson and Minter each carded their tourney-low rounds of 77 on Tuesday in helping Western advance in the final team standings. Karlsson finished tied for 14th overall at 238, while Minter moved to a tie for 28th with a three-day score of 247. Freshman Rachel Nelson finished tied for 31st with a 54-hole score of 249, while classmate Ashley Shinn was 46th with a 264.
