U.S. Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), in the photo at left, meets with Western Carolina University Chancellor David O. Belcher at the site of WCU’s new Health and Human Sciences Building during a swing through Jackson County on Thursday, Aug. 18. The 160,000-square-foot, $46 million building is under construction on 344 acres across N.C. Highway 107 from the main WCU campus as part of the Millennial Initiative. The building will be certified at the silver level by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) through standards developed by the United States Green Building Council. Prior to hitting campus, Burr toured Jackson Paper Manufacturing Co. in Sylva.
