New off-campus housing offered at 808 West

808 West, the newest off-campus housing option, will become available to students during the fall semester of 2013. Construction on the apartments is nearing completion, and available units are filling up fast.

Located just across the highway from campus, the apartments offer a convenient proximity from the university while still allowing for the off-campus, independent living feel that many move off-campus to find.

Each unit is fully furnished and comes with a state-of-the-art modern kitchen, 42-inch flat screen television, washer and dryer. The bedrooms house full-sized beds, built-in desks, nightstands and a chest of drawers. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, and each unit is fully air-conditioned.

808 West has two and three-bedroom apartment options for 12-month leases. The community also sports a roommate matching service that will pair students with those who have similar social interests and lifestyles.

The apartment buildings are four stories complete with an elevator, making it handicap accessible. Being within walking distance to campus, students will not have to worry about finding a parking spot to get to their next class. This convenience makes 808 West a suitable place for faculty, staff, graduates and undergraduates alike.

With features such as gate accessibility and security, intrusion alarms in every apartment, and the ability to own pets with restrictions on certain breeds, 808 West is poised to be a safe, friendly and accommodating community for students looking for off-campus housing.

Students looking to keep a pet in their apartment should know there is a 75-pound limit on animals and that they will be required to pay a one-time fee of $300.

There is also a community center equipped with a fitness center, business center, tanning bed with 24-hour access, as well as a café with a coffee bar. Students may choose to lounge at the salt-water pool or study in the business center, which also provides a printer that can be used to print class assignments or materials.

According to 808 West Community Manager Trina Lynch, rates are “absolutely affordable” for students. The standard rate of $595 a month includes all utilities such as water, electricity, cable, Internet, and sewer and trash services.

Tenants are allotted an allowance for electricity consumption that will not create any additional charges until after that limit is reached.

“There is no additional cost for parking, pool or community center access,” said Lynch. “It is all included in the monthly rate.”

Additionally, Lynch notes that a special is currently being offered that reduces the rate for renters to $565 for the remaining three bedrooms.

August 1 is presently scheduled as the move-in date for those planning to live in 808 West.
