As a cinephile, I always stay updated about movies that are coming out. My passion for films can make me critical of certain information released before the movie, like the title, trailer or people tied to the project. Some of my favorite films to watch and research are horror films, and the upcoming films this fall look to be very promising.
After experimenting with action, a famous franchise is returning to its horror roots. “Alien: Romulus,” a reboot to the “Alien” franchise, came out Aug. 16. The main antagonists of the film, the Xenomorphs, have been redesigned to look more like actual horror creatures than previous “Alien” movies. The director, Fede Alvarez, is a renown horror director who has directed films such as “Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe” the 2022 “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
“Strange Darling”, a movie where a one-night stand turns into a killer’s murder spree, is set to come out Aug. 23. The star, Willa Fitzgerald, is a key player in the slasher community with roles like Emma Duvall in the TV series “Scream.” The film already has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a very hard feat to make as a horror film.
A big name in horror comedy that is coming out soon is a sequel to one of the most famous movies in this genre. “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice,” the sequel to Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” film, comes out Sept. 6. Michael Keaton will rehash his role as the famous demon and many other returners from the original film. The movie will also feature new faces like Jenna Ortega.
Finally, psychological thriller, “Speak No Evil,” comes out Sept. 13. The film will star James McAvoy from “Split.” A family is invited to stay at a country house, but their vacation quickly turns into a nightmare. James Watkins, the director of films like “Eden Lake” and “The Woman in Black” returns for this film, which is very promising.
The end of 2024 will bring horror films that have potential to be extremely well received and highly acclaimed films. The film that I am most excited to see is “Alien: Romulus” but all these films have the potential to be truly beautiful and can make 2024 a great year for the progress of horror films.
