Hi, my name is Marrah Ste. Marie. I’m a senior communication major and political science minor. I joined The Western Carolinian in spring of 2023. As Editor-in-Chief I oversee the paper’s content, events and any other necessities to make things possible.
Cora Haste – Managing Editor
Hey y’all! My name is Cora. I am a senior communication major and music minor. I started working with The Western Carolinian in fall 2023 as digital media coordinator. The Carolinian is a special organization that I love working for and talking about. As Managing Editor, I will oversee our online presence and all of the fun adminsitrative, behind the scenes things!
Leah Marshall – Lead Designer
Hi! My name is Leah Marshall and I am a graphic design major and marketing minor. I joined The Western Carolinian in the spring 2024 as an Assistant Designer, I am now the Lead Designer. As Lead Designer, I layout and finalize the design of all print editions, as well as create fun promotional material for The Western Carolinian.

Stewart Butler – Issues and Features
Hello, I am Stewart Butler. I am a senior studying communication and marketing. In my time at WCU, I’ve developed a passion for local news and community issues. I love working in WNC and telling fun and unique stories. In my free time, I enjoy porch-sitting and a good book.
Mackenzie Atkinson – News
My name is Mackenzie and I am in my fourth year at WCU studying political science and communication. After graduation, I plan to work as a political journalist. I was raised in a Marine Corps family which led to me living in multiple different places from California to Japan.
Mattilyn Sneed – Arts and Entertainment
Hi, I’m Mattilynn Sneed. I’m a senior studying communication and a minor in Cherokee studies. I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains and love writing about all things local. My goals include cultural reconnection, natural resource preservation and strengthening community bonds.

Marie Spencer – Senior Reporter
I am Marie Spencer! I am a junior double major in communication and English literary studies. This is my second semester writing for The Western Carolinian. I’m a senior reporter, meaning I am responsible for writing, researching and interviewing individuals for multiple articles per edition.

Hello! I’m Max Poku-Kankam, and I am a sophomore at WCU. I am communication major and a film studies minor. I joined The Western Carolinian in Spring 2024 as a junior reporter and am now a senior reporter. I love horror movies, basketball, philosophy, pop music and writing!

Hi! My name is Callia Addikis. I joined The Western Carolinian as a copy editor in Spring 2024. As copy editor, I edit each editions’ contents for grammar and spelling errors. I am an outdoor enthusiast who loves mountain biking and lacrosse. I also enjoy reading and spending time with friends.
