Western Carolina junior Donovan Minero was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday.

Minero raised his season batting average 41 points to .352 this past week, going 10-for-18 (.556) at the plate with three home runs and ten RBIs. Versus Tennessee, he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a home run, and a double.

In a Saturday doubleheader versus Appalachian State, he was 5-for-9 with seven RBIs. In the first game, the San Jose, California native was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, while going 3-for-5 and hitting his second grand slam of the season in game two.

He finished the week with a 2-for-4 performance against the Mountaineers on Sunday.

Over his last five games (dating back to a win over Georgia Southern on March 25), Minero is batting .609 (14-for-23) with five homers and 15 RBIs. He is tied with teammate Alan Beck for the SoCon home run lead with 11 and ranks fourth in the league in slugging percentage (.704).

Minero is the third Catamount to earn a SoCon weekly honor this season and the second in as many weeks. Beck was tabbed Player of the Week (March 8), while Ryan Basner was named Pitcher of the Week last Tuesday (March 27).
