Healthy Student Living – Celebrate Every Body Week

During the last week of February, a series of events are being promoted to encourage the campus community to ‘Celebrate Every Body.’ ‘Celebrate Every Body Week’ is Western’s initiative to raise awareness of issues that promote body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. The following outreach events will occur as part of a nation-wide initiative.

Monday, February 24th 10:00 P. M. “Perfect Illusions: Eating Disorders and the Family”‘ will be aired on select PBS stations nationwide. Tune in at home or in the privacy of your room.

Tuesday – Thursday (Feb 25-27): Look for an info table at the UC for local information and support of body image and eating issues. Several student groups will host the info table, each at select times throughout the week.

Wednesday, February 26th 7:00 – 8:00 P. M. “Barbie Nation: An Unauthorized Tour” will be shown in the UC. Barbie Nation plumbs the cult of the Barbie doll from Barbie conventions to anti-Barbie demonstrations.

Friday, February 28th 11:00 – 11:50 A. M. “Judging Female Attractiveness: Face or Figure” Poster Session by Heather Ulrich and Dr. Mickey Randolph in the UC Grand Room as part of WCU’s Second Annual Women’s Conference.

2:00 – 2:50 P. M. “Eating Disorders in Women: Etiology and Interventions” Presentation by Dr. Candace Boan and Dr. Mickey Randolph, also as part of WCU’s Second Annual Women’s Conference.
