New Club for Outdoor Lovers

New at Western Carolina is a club for students interested in fishing, and other outdoor activities. Cameron Street Hamrick and Jeff White brought Ducks Unlimited recently to this campus.”We’ve had an awesome turn out, everyone’s having a great time” said Hamrick.Ducks Unlimited has been a national organization since 1937. It is a grassroots, volunteer based organization whose members are conservationist and lovers of the outdoors. This club also conserves, restores, and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl. So far Ducks Unlimited host more than 4,500 members with about 20 members here at WCU.”It really wasn’t hard to get started” said White. White contacted the national chapter and then applied for a student organization on catamount connections to get the club started on this campus.Club members are excited about the new chapter and are currently planning events to get more student participation. Saturday, April 26 Ducks Unlimited will hold a fishing tournament at 4:00 p.m. by the softball field followed by a cook out. Price of the event will be $25.00 which includes fishing, food and membership. Official Ducks Unlimited prizes will also be given out for biggest fish and max weight.”We hope people will come out to the tournament. There will be prizes, food, and fun” said White.Ducks Unlimited club starters Hamrick and White encourage outdoor lovers to check out the tournament and look for the booth they will have set up in front of the U.C.
