“To believe in mariachi means having a passion for life itself.” – José Hernández

Mariachi Sol de México® is a Grammy-nominated band and is led by José Hernández. Maestro Hernández is an internationally recognized musician, composer, and educator. His family tree is rooted in five generations of Mariachi musicians that hail from the La Sierra del Tigre region of Jalisco. José built on that foundation to grow mariachi music in new territories, musical genres, and in the hearts of new audiences.

José formed Mariachi Sol de México® in 1981 and has gone on to sell out halls from New York’s Lincoln Center to Viña del Mar in Santiago, Chile. From the beginning, José has been the mastermind behind creating cohesive collaborations with symphony orchestras such as Los Angeles Philharmonic, Santa Rosa Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Jalisco Symphony. These collaborations grew true recognition worldwide in Latin-American homes, “Everybody in Latin America serenades their girlfriend or their wife with mariachi music – because they see it in the movies. But it has evolved so much over the last 20 years it’s almost like a classical art form.” José says.

Not only has the band partnered with world-renown symphonies, but they have also been an attraction to Hollywood for soundtracks, where they have provided music since the 1980s. Sol de México® can be heard in films such as Rango, Glory Road, Sea Biscuit, Don Juan de Marco, and many more. Sol de México® list of collaborations includes artists like the Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Selena, Jose Feliciano, and Luis Miguel.

A genuine passion for mariachi is the backbone behind José Hernández and Mariachi Sol de México’s success, and they are sure to bring a fantastic show for all. Their performance will focus on their recent releases, “Embajadores del Mariachi: 40 Aniversario” (Mariachi Ambassadors: 40th Anniversary), featuring new renditions of some of their biggest hits throughout the years.

Mariachi Sol de México® de José Hernández is sure to bring the party, and Bardo Arts Center is thrilled to see you there. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. Box Office is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
