WCU Men’s Golf Places Fourth

The Western Carolina men’s golf team moved up two spots from its first day finish to place fourth in a 17-team field at the Winthrop/Waterford Invitational.

The event was the first for the Catamounts this spring and marked the team’s second top five finish of the 2000-01 season.

Freshman Jason Huguet (Greer, S.C./Riverside) led WCU with a 14th (tied) place finish. He shot rounds of 75 and 80 for a total of 155. Sophomore Bryan Sangid (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) also had a top 20 finish, shooting 157 (75-82) for the two-day event to place 19th (tied).

Charleston Southern won the invitational with a team score of 609, followed by Campbell (610), Winthrop (618) and Western Carolina (629). Medalist honors went to Winthrop’s Kyle Christman (148), who defeated Rickard Allard of Campbell in a playoff.
