WCU CAT PACK Looking To Increase Membership

Members of the WCU Cat Pack usually focus on increasing school spirit and attendance at athletic events. This semester the members have a new focus: To increase the number of its members. About a year ago students formed the booster club, the Cat Pack to support both men and women’s athletics at Western. The members enjoy some great benefits including, discounts at local businesses, free apparel, reserved seating at home events and free admission to selected away events. Since getting together a year ago the membership of the Cat Pack is around twenty people. This semester they are looking forward to doubling its membership by sponsoring a fundraiser and hosting a tailgating party before the baseball game April 13th at 11:30 a.m. against the College of Charleston. Some other goals of the Cat Pack include increasing attendance at Western home athletic events and increasing school spirit on campus, as well as in the surrounding community. Some of the members have been working hard with local businesses in the area to show that they “back the Cats” by decorating their businesses in purple and gold. Others are working diligently on getting the organization recognized and funded by SGA. “The department is really excited about getting this going and getting the students more involved with the athletics here at Western,” said Athletic Director, Jeff Compher. The Catamounts need the support of the students and the community. There is no cost to join the Cat Pack. Members are allowed to miss two home events and required to attend one meeting a month. This club is free, its fun and it backs Western. What other reason do you need to join? Students interested in joining the Cat pack should contact Rachel Newcomb at 293-9904.
