Who said Wednesday nights suck?

Looking for something fun and free to do on Wednesday nights? Need a way to express your artistic side? What if we throw in cool singles and a BYOB policy? Interested yet? Well, look no further than Western’s own Open Mic Nights! Hosted by Last Minute Productions who is involved with so much of the fine entertainment available right here in Cullowhee, this gem of an event is truly one of LMP’s best. Students from all over WCU come together every other week at Illusions to express their creative sides and have a good time. Sort of a cross between karaoke and a variety show, your fellow students will regale you with poetry, jam out their favorite tunes with their friends or whatever else they think will keep you entertained for the night. You can never be entirely sure what’s going to happen, but it will always be something fresh and new. Open Mic Nights average about five or six performances and 90 to 100 people in the audience. Even if the first few acts don’t blow you away, something will catch your fancy and keep you enthralled for the evening. And who knows who you’ll meet? A new friend or that significant other you’ve been looking for? Either way, you’re bound to have a good time. The doors open at 9:00 p.m. every other Wednesday, but groups who want to perform need to sign up about a week in advance. Performances are screened by Jason Eckard of LMP to keep the quality up and the fun flowing. Visit the LMP office on the second floor of the UC, and fill out the sign-up sheet. Open Mic Nights are held in Illusions on the third floor of the UC, up the steps on the right, and if you bring your own bottle, be sure to bring your i.d., as well.
