Annual WCU Jazz Festival Set for April 16-18

Western’s annual Jazz Festival is scheduled for April 16 through April 18. This year will feature Fred Hamilton and Kat Williams.

All events at the festival are free and open to the public. This will be a great opportunity for folks interested in jazz, or music in general to learn some new things. On April 16, The Catamount Chamber Singers and Electric Soul will be performing at the Fine and Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm.

Kat Williams, an accomplished contemporary vocal artist, not to be confused with the popular comedian, will be teaching a jazz vocal master class in Coulter at the Recital Hall on Friday, April 17. Hamilton and Williams will be performing at FPAC Friday at 7:30pm with the WCU jazz ensemble and jazz combos.

Hamilton is a master guitarist, bassist and composer. He currently teaches Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas. He is also is an author of several guitar books and offers video lessons through his website. He will be leading a guitar ensemble master class on Saturday, April 18 at 12:30pm.

Hamilton will also be teaching a jazz improvisation class at 1:30 the same day. These classes will be held at FPAC.
