Brown Earns State Athletic Trainers Scholarship

Western Carolina University student Daniel Davis Brown II of Durham recently received one of three North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association Presidential Scholarships for Leadership. Brown graduated from Northern High School in 2006 and his parents are Ken and Rhonda Brown. He expects to graduate in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. Brown also was recently awarded a summer internship with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens as an athletic trainer. During his time at WCU, he has completed internships with Duke University Sports Medicine and the Durham Bulls professional baseball club. Brown also is president of the WCU Athletic Trainers’ Association.

“To receive this scholarship is a tremendous accomplishment for Dan,” said James Scifers, associate professor and director of WCU’s athletic training program. “It recognizes his significant achievement in the areas of academic and clinical excellence, as well as leadership among his peers within the profession.”
