Ten students selected for WCU Homecoming Court

Five women and five men have been selected for Western Carolina University’s 2011 Homecoming Court.

The court will be presented and the king and queen crowned during halftime activities at WCU’s football game against The Citadel on Saturday, Oct. 22. The game begins at 3 p.m.

In addition, they will participate in the Homecoming parade, which begins in downtown Sylva at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.

Seeking the title of queen:

Hannah Marie Blanton, a junior from Forest City majoring in communication sciences and disorders, is sponsored by the Balsam Hall Council. A 2009 graduate of Chase High School, Blanton is the daughter of Janet and Jack Blanton.

Bailey Caroline Hamby, a senior from Hudson majoring in communication and public relations, is sponsored by Phi Mu fraternity. A 2008 graduate of South Caldwell High School, Hamby is the daughter of Maria and Jeff Triplett, and Tim Hamby.

Katelyn Dorothy Hoffman, a junior from Indian Trail majoring in elementary education, is sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority. A 2009 graduate of Sun Valley High School, Hoffman is the daughter of Susan and Robert Hoffman.

Noelle Marie McConnell, a sophomore from Charlotte majoring in psychology, is sponsored by WCU track and field. A 2010 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, McConnell is the daughter of Kim and Steven McConnell.

Courtney Lee Tomlinson, a senior from Mebane majoring in theatre, is sponsored by Orientation Programs. A 2008 graduate of Eastern Alamance High School, Tomlinson is the daughter of Lisa and Alan Tomlinson.

Seeking the title of king:

Jacob William Buchanan, a senior from Sylva majoring in history, is sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority. A 2008 graduate of Smoky Mountain High School, Buchanan is the son of Pamela and James Buchanan.

Tyler Terrell Johnson, a senior from Hickory majoring in communication, is sponsored by Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. A 2008 graduate of Fred T. Foard High School, Johnson is the son of Lee Lanette Shade and Larry Walter Johnson.

Taylor James Medford, a senior from Waynesville majoring in elementary education, is sponsored by Orientation Programs. A 2008 graduate of Tuscola High School, Medford is the son of Glenda and Whitey Medford.

Christopher Adam Ray, a junior from Cullowhee majoring in social science education, is sponsored by the Balsam Hall Council. A 2009 graduate of Smoky Mountain High School, Ray is the son of Deb and Chris Ray.

Clarence Cornelius Williams, a senior from Gastonia majoring in criminal justice, is sponsored by WCU track and field. A 2008 graduate of Ashbrook High School, Williams is the son of Dorothy and Clarence Williams.
