Local 5k provides opportunity to burn calories and celebrate community on Thanksgiving

‘First the huffin’, then the stuffin’! The ‘5k Turkey Trot’ is back for another year at the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 25.

This fundraiser run is hosted by the Waynesville-Sunrise Rotary Club in support of local community development projects.

All community members are encouraged to participate in this family-friendly, holiday event! Adult fees for anyone 13 years and older are $30 and youth fees for anyone 12 and under are $15. A race t-shirt is included in the price. Late registration and packet pick-up will be located at the Weldon Outdoor Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 25 from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

“This is a beautiful and thankful way to start a beautiful and thank-filled day. Walk, jog, run, or pursue a personal best, whatever you prefer – this is the place to achieve it. Lake Junaluska, and this course, are the perfect host and backdrop to take pause, reflect, and be thankful,” said Rotary Club race organizer, Lane Perry in a press release.

Volunteers are needed for set-up and take-down, parking, and food and drinks. To sign-up for volunteer slots, email Lane Perry at lanegravesperry@gmail.com

Greg Duff, President and Founder of Glory Hound Events, expressed excitement in working with the rotary club to put on this beloved event.

“We are thrilled to be part of this event and to be working with the Waynesville-Sunrise Rotary. The excitement and energy they bring, along with the novelty of running at beautiful Lake Junaluska to begin the Thanksgiving holiday, will make for a fantastic race and morning,” Duff said in a press release.
