Opinion: For the love of green bean casserole

When you think of Thanksgiving, what do you think of? Food, family, crafts, shopping, etc.?

Well, when I think of Thanksgiving, I think of crowding into my grandparents’ house with my whole family dressed up.

We normally eat Thanksgiving “linner”, late lunch, and an early dinner. We have the typical Thanksgiving food: turkey, green beans, rolls, casseroles, potatoes, gravy, etc. I can pinpoint my favorite food very easily when I get in line to fill up my plate. Green bean casserole is always the best dish on the counter. 

Here is a classic recipe for Green Bean Casserole from McCormick:

Green Bean Casserole

Calories 145            Cook Time 35m        Prep Time 5m

 

Ingredients (6 servings)

1 Can Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup

¾ cup milk

1/8 teaspoon McCormick Ground Pepper Black

2 Cans (14.5 ounces each) any style Del monte Green Beans, drained

1 1/3 cups French’s Original Crispy Fried Onions, divided

 

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, and pepper in 1 ½ quart baking dish. Stir in green beans and 2/3 cup Crispy Fried Onions.
  2. Bake 30 minutes or until hot. Stir.
  3. Top with remaining 2/3 cup onions. Bake 5 minutes longer or until onions are golden brown.
