Now an education literally can take you higher when Western Carolina University offers “Introduction to Flight and FAA Pilot Exam Prep” this spring and summer.
The ground school course, to meet from 6 to 9pm, Mondays and Thursdays, May 14 through July 19, is designed to prepare participants for the new Federal Aviation Administration computerized written test. It is a non-credit course and is open to anyone interested in becoming a private pilot.
Certified FAA advanced ground instructor William F. Bacon of Hendersonville will teach the course. A private pilot with 15 years of experience in passenger sales at American Airlines, Bacon said the course could lead to a career in aviation.
“The airlines are hiring, and the FAA says regional carriers are experiencing a stunning growth rate,” said Bacon.
Tuition is $185 per person, with an additional fee of $75 to cover the cost of textbook, plotter and flight computer. A tour of the air traffic control center at Asheville Regional Airport is included in the course.
