Sgt. Johnny Hollifield of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recently presented a certificate of appreciation to students from Fred Fisher’s “Active Citizenship” class. The students raised $676.24 for the Jackson County “Shops with Cops” program as part of a community-based service-learning project. The program’s mission is to work with local school systems to identify young people whose families are living in poverty.
“This allows the kids to go shopping for themselves and their families,” said Fisher, instructor of political science and public affairs. “In short, it provides an opportunity to have a Christmas when they might not be able to have one at all.”
