Western Carolina University’s department of stage and screen will present its spring dance showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The program is titled “A Moveable Feast: An Evening of Dance and Musical Theatre Works.” It will feature dance numbers by WCU’s dance faculty, graduate students and alumni, who will showcase an eclectic display of dance genres and music. Instructor Jennifer Lent will choreograph and direct contemporary pieces “Moulin Rouge,” “Mama Mia,” “Chicago” and a new work based on Coldplay’s Grammy-Award-winning album “Viva La Vida.” Instructor Amy Dowling will choreograph two modern pieces, “Chiarascuro” and “Emanon.” Instructor Amy Jacques will choreograph the classical ballet “Don Quixote” and “Women with Wings.” Student Whitney Hinson will choreograph a modern piece called “Impetus.”
Lent also will make an appearance in “Mama Mia.” Alan Malpass, 2006 WCU graduate, will perform in the “Don Quixote” ballet. An a capella tap number, directed by Lent in collaboration with tap students, also will be performed.
The event is open to the public. All ticket prices are $5 and can be purchased at the FPAC box office at (828) 227-2479.
